| First off, car is running strong. At least it feels that way to me. Fuel pressure is definitely fixed and holding strong. I bumped it to 44psi reference just to make sure before dynoing. NOTE: For those of you that haven't seen an air fuel chart on a dyno (I was one of them once) the lower the number on the side the richer the car is running. So 10 is really rich. 14 is really lean. I've learned so far that under boost, shoot for 11.5 This was my LAST dyno back when we knew I was running lean but didn't know why:
This was the best I could do with +50% correction on the AFC. Obviously running VERY lean and it turned out to be the K&N fuel filter being freaky (for those who don't already know). Conditions: 93 Octane (Chevron - no race gas) roughly 85 degrees ambient temperature (maybe a little more) No ice or nitrous on the intercoolers or crazy tricks. They only have one big fan but it doesn't flow a lot and I positioned it dead center on the car so neither IC had direct air flow but they both had some fringe flow. Today we started off with ZERO correction on the AFC, which I've had turned off since ZCon. For boost levels, the AVC-R isn't hitting exactly right so I was getting some fluctuations at full boost... so when I say what boost I was running that was peak achieved by the AVC-R but it typically was not steady. Range fluctuated about 2psi. First run was between 17-19psi range. No AFC correction:
Notice how RICH I'm running... definitely the fuel filter that was at fault. The AF line disappears at 4000rpms because it went so rich it hit the bottom of the graph. Low HP number but me and ole Nixit were all smiles :) Also you can see the jumps in the graph. This was where the boost would hit, then fall off, then hit again. Final result after tuning with the AFC (about 6-7 runs later):
Peak HP = 442rwhp Peak torque=389 (interesting that my HP was higher here but torque was lower than my first run. This run the boost was actually lower peak by about 1psi.) Since the AF curve was so sweet, we decided to pump the boost up. I was shooting for 25psi but it actually hit around 23.5psi and was fluctuating since all I did was punch up the duty cycle on the AVC-R so it hadn't 'learned' anything. Max HP: 477rwhp Torque: 461. Note the kick-ass AF curve.
So, for those of you thinking about the AFC, I can now say that it truly kicks ass. We dialed that baby right in within 3-4 runs and, as you saw, it was rich off the charts when we started. It's not what I was hoping for (nor what any of you was hoping for I can see), so while disappointing it's still FOUR HUNDRED AND SEVENTY-SEVEN TO THE GROUND That's not too bad :-) Also, on several runs we got some quick puffs of black smoke at the top end of the run. In two cases a swirl of whitish caustic smoke popped out after he let off. That has me a little concerned so we didn't push things too far. Genic got vid of the tailpipe (including flame when I was running so rich) that I'll post later. I'd like to get some expert feedback on what the hell it is.
Meddle not in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy, and good with mustard.
